Reaching the Unreachable in the Poorest Parts of the World

Success based upon human values

GHF Local Advisory Board members, who are all unpaid volunteers, play an indispensable part in all of our projects in the field. They are all PHDS,  namely

    P for Professional

    H for Honest

    D for Dedicated

S for Sensitive to the culture and needs of the local people

GHF values are an integral part of all of our programmes:

  • We work in partnership with the local community within a climate of trust and confidence
  • We establish a flexible mode of operation with a clearly defined mission statement
  • We respond to the genuine needs of the local population at times and places which make sense to them. We never dictate.
  • We relate to children as a part of the family, and to the family as a part of the community
  • We build relationships with the project beneficiaries based upon mutual trust and respect.
  • We actively collaborate across professional and bureaucratic boundaries

Criteria for GHF development assistance

Countries where GHF operates must have a supportive political climate, namely

  • Stability
  • Openness
  • Security

Projects are accepted only after recommendation from GHF Local Advisory Board Members, and then after evaluation by the GHF Technical Advisor.

Projects are never owned by GHF. We do not take possession or control of a project, nor do we blazon our name upon it. Ours is a modest role. All projects are owned by the local people. It is their project for which they take responsibility. We merely help them to help themselves, and to take the first steps towards self-sufficiency and self-reliance - the ultimate goal in all GHF assisted projects.

GHF assistance to projects gives them FEET, namely:

  • F for Focused Funding
  • E for Equipment
  • E for Education
  • T for Training

GHF assistance to projects enables them to FEED, namely

  • F for Freedom from want
  • E for Equality
  • E for Equity
  • D for Dignity

GHF funding does not cover recurring expenses. These need to be borne by the local people themselves, so that GHF can at some point, leave the project "standing on its own two feet", having achieved independence and self sufficiency, and then of course, self respect and dignity.
