Reaching the Unreachable in the Poorest Parts of the World

The Eco-Park Manrique Project,Colima, Mexico

This Project is located in the outskirts of the city of Colima by the riverbeds of the Manrique brook. Constructions in the city began to extend, and in order to protect the fauna and flora of the region, the local environmentalists and the Municipality planned this Eco-Park Project.

This Project consists mainly of the following Programmes:

1. Environmental orientation and education

2. Sports and leisure activities

3. Recreational event

The aims of this Project are:

1. To provide environmental awareness to three thousand students.

2. To provide sports and leisure activities to the local population.

3. To provide environmental education to interested target groups.

The basic beneficiary participants comprise the following:

1. One thousand families living in the area.

2. One thousand handicapped persons.

3. Three thousand school children and adults.

4. Four hundred retired persons.

The Participant Institutions comprise the following:

1. The Municipality of Colima

2. Different local committees in the neighborhood.

GHF is providing relevant technical assistance, as well as partial funding until 2013.

The total amount needed for 2008 and 2009 is eighteen thousand
