The Project: San Pedro de Pavas is a rural community with 2'400 families. It is situated approximately 20 kilometres from the capital San José.
It lacks basic amenities and infrastructure.
A study was undertaken which identified the following deficiencies and problems
- Unemployment
- Environmental pollution
- Ill-health
- A lack of drinking water.
The community had no medical centre, no school, and deficient housing.
In collaboration with the Women's Salesian Association of Costa Rica and the Ministry of Health, GHF has helped to built a primary school and a dental
clinic providing dental care at a nominal fee. The school now helps more than 100 children to develop their full potential, and provides them with two nourishing meals per day.
For the parents and other community members, we are providing training in home economics, computer education, hairdressing, sewing and other skills.
